- Q: What is Talk Like Yoda Day?
A: In the now grand tradition of Talk Like a Pirate Day, Talk Like Yoda Day offers everyone a chance to pay homage to that greatest of Jedi Masters, Yoda, by talking in the same way he does. ^ - Q: How can I talk like Yoda?
A: Basically swap parts of your sentences around. It takes some practice, but eventually it’s second nature. “I’m going to the shops” becomes “Going to the shops, I am”; “I won’t help you with your homework” becomes “Help you with your homework, I will not”; “My neighbours are installing a conservatory” becomes “Installing a conservatory, my neighbours are”, and so on. For more information, read our HOWTO page. ^ - Q: When is Talk Like Yoda Day?
A: Every year on May 21st. Why that date? Well, Yoda was first unleashed onto the world when The Empire Strikes Back was released in the United States on May 21st, 1980. It seems a fitting date to pay homage to Yoda, and it doesn’t clash with the unofficial Star Wars day on May 4th (May 4th … May the 4th … May the Force … get it?). ^ - Q: How much does Talk Like Yoda Day cost?
A: As much or as little as you want it to. This is a completely unofficial, unsanctioned event, with no affiliation with Lucasfilm or Twentieth Century Fox, therefore there seems no need to make it commercial in any way. If you simply want to talk like Yoda all day, it should cost you nothing other than your concentration! However, you may want to go the whole hog and dress like Yoda. An optional step this is, of course. ^ - Q: Isn’t Talk Like Yoda Day on May 22nd?
A: Unsure why people think this, we are. Some sites think May 22nd should be Talk Like Yoda Day because that’s when Empire was released. However, every source we’ve found, including Lucasfilm and IMDb, states that May 21st, 1980 was the release date — releases around the rest of the world took place between June and December 1980. ^
